Day 11 – 12 Palenque – Bacalar

Today was a slow morning and I had a bit of a sleep in after many early starts so far on the trip. After breakfast we went to the Palenque ruins which were more impressive than I was anticipating.

This is the first hotel we have stayed at that has had a pool so we spent the afternoon by the pool drinking coronas, swimming and playing card games. A fairly uneventful day but a nice chilled one!

The bus to Bacalar we were taking was departing at 3am so the sleep in the previous night was short lived as the alarm sounded at 2:30am. Today was a fairly long travel day on the road as we headed towards Bacalar.

Bacalar isn’t on the coast but is known for its huge lake (or lagoon?) where you can swim. We had a boat tour included when we arrived that had unlimited beers on it. It probably would have been better to have this day on any other day that we didn’t have to wake up at 2:30am because everyone was so tired, but I can’t complain.

After the boat dinner we got dinner and had a relatively early night 🙂
